Although it may provide temporary relief, avoidance can increase anxiety's likelihood over time. Constantly and gradually exposing yourself to anxiety-inducing triggers that are more frequent and severe will result in daily discomfort and long-term relief. While these patients may experience temporary relief, they will end up being worse off in the long term.
